Mujeres en contravía (Women against the grain) takes up the title of the homonymous exhibition held at the Arte 19 gallery in 1990 in Bogota. On that occasion, the production of women artists was brought together with the aim of making visible and emphasizing the contesting nature of their work. This premise is still valid today.
The input of this exhibition is part of the Diapotheque of the Universidad de los Andes, a library of images that were fed for decades by the university professors, being the basic and daily material for art history classes. However, the digital era left it in a state of obsolescence and today it is a vestige of the recent past preserved by the Bank of Digital Archives of Colombian Artists (BADAC).
All the images in the exhibition are part of this collection and the show brings together works by women artists of diverse origins and time periods, with a special emphasis on art produced in Colombia in the second half of the 20th century. The very format of the archive -extensive and diverse- proposed the creation of connections and parallels between abstract art, figurative art, landscape, serigraphy, performance, textile art, ceramics, etc. Mujeres en contravía proposes contrasts and coincidences between the work of women who, with a diversity of agendas, rebelled against preconceptions of "feminine" art and swam against the tide in a world dominated by the male gaze.

Mujeres en contravía retoma el título de la exposición homónima realizada en 1990 en la galería Arte 19 de Bogotá. En esa ocasión se reunió la producción de mujeres artistas con el objetivo de visibilizar y enfatizar el carácter contestatario de su obra. Hoy esa premisa sigue vigente.
El registro de esta exposición es parte de la Diapoteca de la Universidad de los Andes, biblioteca de imágenes que fue alimentada durante décadas por los profesores de la universidad, siendo el insumo básico y cotidiano de las clases de historia del arte. Sin embargo, la era digital lo dejó en estado de obsolescencia y hoy es un vestigio del pasado reciente conservado por el Banco de Archivos Digitales de Artistas Colombianos (BADAC).
Todas las imágenes de la exposición hacen parte de esta colección y la muestra reúne obras de mujeres artistas de diversas procedencias y temporalidades, con un especial énfasis en arte producido en Colombia en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. El mismo formato del archivo –extenso y diverso– propuso la creación de conexiones y paralelismos entre arte abstracto, figurativo, paisaje, serigrafía, performance, arte textil, cerámica, etc. Mujeres en contravía plantea contrastes y coincidencias entre la obra de mujeres, que con diversidad de agendas, se rebelaron contra preconceptos del arte "femenino" y nadaron a contracorriente en un mundo dominado por la mirada masculina.
